2017 is going to be the year of flagships. With Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Edge and Galaxy Note 8 on the cards, several other smartphone manufacturers will be vying to get their market share with their flagship phones. Looks like LG doesn’t want to be left behind and plans to release the LG G6 very soon. With not much happening in the Consumer Electronics Show that concluded on January 8th in Las Vegas, NV, smartphone manufacturers are likely to make interesting announcements at the upcoming Barcelona Mobile World Congress (MWC).

LG G6 to release one month before Samsung Galaxy S8

According to insider sources in the Korean industry, the LG G6 will be released on March 10, 2017, one month ahead of the Galaxy S8 release. LG is expected to unveil the new flagship LG G6 by end of February. LG G6 will release in Korean markets in March. Not much is known about the international availability of the new LG smartphone at this point in time. It looks like LG is trying to capture Samsung’s market share by releasing its next flagship well in advance. Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to launch on April 18, 2017. After the Note 7 fiasco, Samsung is keen on getting its next set of devices right. The Korean Giant is now focusing on its next flagship offering – Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge

Bixby – Samsung’s new AI assistant – will be first introduced on Galaxy S8. Bixby will be significantly more advanced and more contextually aware than S Voice and better integrated into Samsung app ecosystem than the current digital assistant. Sporting a 2K resolution display and featuring 8GB RAM, the Galaxy S8 will have an impressive screen-to-body ratio of about 90%. The phone will make its appearance in April at a special event in New York. Galaxy S8 mass production is all set to begin in March, targeting 5 million units. Another 5 million units will be added for April launch.

That said, LG may also make a significant turnaround in 2017. LG G6 is likely to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with 1440 x 2560 resolution, USB Type-C port and a back panel made of glass. The best thing about LG G6, if rumors are to be believed, is that it’s going to be 20% cheaper than its predecessor.
