Moto and Lenovo has announced their latest mid-range premium smartphone in India, the Moto Z2 Play. Similar to the previous generation, the new Moto Z2 Play is banking heavily on the Moto Mods concept which adds additional functionality for the device. The Moto Z2 Play has a 5.5 inch Full HD display and is powered by the new Snapdragon 626 Octa core processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage.
The phone also comes with new camera optics and is similar to Moto G5 plus and sports a 12MP camera with dual Pixel auto focus, dual tone dual LED flash and a 5MP front camera. The battery size has been reduced to 3000mAh and it comes with turbo charging. Here are our first impressions of the device.
The Moto Z Play which was released last year came with aluminium frame with glass finishing. The Moto Z2 Play has the design language similar to the predecessor but it is more of refined design which makes the device slimmer and lighter than Z Play. It now comes with a metal unibody design made from aircraft grade aluminium similar to Moto G5 Plus. The build quality of the device is top notch and feels premium. It is extremely slim to hold and use at 5.9mm. There is a major projection for the camera unit which is a 12MP unit with laser autofocus and dual LED flash. The power and volume keys are on the right side and comes with good feedback. The top houses the SIM tray while the bottom has USB C type charging and data syncing port along with 3.5mm audio jack. The rear panel has the Moto logo and at the bottom you can see the option to attach the mods to the device.
The front panel has 5.5 inch Full HD display which is an AMOLED panel similar to Z Play. The display is also protected by Gorilla Glass and has a 2.5D glass. The display quality looks good and the viewing angles are also good. The brightness levels is also good. Above the display you have the front speaker and the 5MP front camera with color corrected flash, which means it is a dual tone dual LED flash. Below the display is the fingerprint scanner which can be doubled as back and multi tasking button with the Moto app.
Overall, the phone feels great in terms of design and build.
Moto Z2 Play runs on Android 7.1.1 and has stock UI similar to any other Moto device. It is backed by the new Moto app which supports gestures and other display options. If you are a person who loves stock UI, then the Moto Z2 Play provides a great experience. With the new Snapdragon 626 clocked at 2.2Ghz and 4GB of RAM, the performance is really impressive. On top of it you also get 64GB of storage. The phone has dual SIM cards and dedicated SD card and supports VoLTE out of the box.
The phone also comes 12MP rear camera with dual pixel auto focus and a front facing 5MP camera. The front flash has been upgraded to dual tone LED flash on the new device. Here are some of the samples taken with the device.
